Six held; jewellery recovered

The city police arrested six persons and recovered 63 sovereigns of gold jewellery from them. Police sources said that there were 13 cases of thefts and burglaries against them. It included seven in Saravanampatty Police limits, three in Selvapuram, two in Kuniyamuthur and one in Perur police station limits.

According to the police, the gang went about the city in a car to identify locked houses and burgled them at night.

They were caught during inquiries by a team led by Assistant Commissioner (Crime) of the Coimbatore East Sub Division D. Baskar.

The accused were identified as N. Abdul Jalal (57) and S. Kajah Hussain (35) of Kuniyamuthur, P. Thomas Koki (30) of Peelamedu, G. Hari Krishnan (31) of Saravanampatty, S. Rafiq (36) of Karumbukadai and M. Sanjeevi (23) Idayarpalayam. Apart from jewellery, a car, a laptop and few other valuables were also recovered from them.

They were booked under sections 457 (lurking house trespass or house-breaking by night in order to commit offence) and 380 (theft in a dwelling place) of the Indian Penal Code, arrested and lodged in jail on Sunday.
