3 Amma Brand Schemes for Inclusive Healthcare in Tamilnadu

Chennai: For the benefit of those who cannot afford the services of private hospitals, the Chief Minister on Tuesday launched three more healthcare schemes - ‘Amma Master Health Check- up’, ‘Amma Special Master Health Check-up’ Scheme for Women and Amma Arokia Thittam in upgraded Primary Health Centres. The first two schemes are to be implemented, on a pilot-basis, at the GGH in Chennai.

To give effect to the announcements made in the State Assembly last year, the Chief Minister also inaugurated Rs 207.33 crore worth health department buildings and dedicated medical equipment worth Rs 21.11 crore through video conferencing facility at the Secretariat. Besides, she also laid the foundation for new buildings for the Medical College Cum Hospitals at Pudukottai and Karur, to be built  at a total cost of Rs 458.92 crore.

In addition, the Chief Minister also inaugurated various other projects of the health department.

‘Amma Master Health Check-up’ scheme will enable people to go in for a master health check-up at a nominal cost. “Under the scheme, people can undergo various tests to check diabetes, blood pressure, hepatitis B, problems in the abdomen, heart diseases and other tests at government hospitals”, an official release here said.

Under the ‘Amma Special Master Health Check-up’ Scheme for Women , three categories of tests will be done. While ‘Amma Gold Test’ will be offered at Rs 1,000, ‘Amma Diamond Test will be offered at Rs 2,000 and ‘Amma Platinum Test’ at Rs 3,000. Specific tests like digital mammogram, pap smear test, Vitamin D test and thyroid test will also be done, apart from other tests. An allocation of Rs 10 crore to the Government GH has been done towards purchase of equipment for the same.

It also would cover tests like pap smear, digital mammogram, parathyroid hormone tests and others at an affordable cost.

Under the Amma Arokia Thittam, people can undergo all basic tests twice a week, free of cost, in the 385 upgraded PHCs.
