Village admin officer caught red-handed while accepting bribe


Sleuths from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption on Thursday laid a trap and caught a Village Administrative Officer Suresh Kumar on charges of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 4,500 for issuing a patta transfer.

According to sources, Prem Nivas of Telugupalayam had bought a land and approached Kumarapalayam VAO’s office for transfer of patta. It is alleged that the VAO demanded a bribe of Rs. 5,000 and after some bargaining had reportedly agreed for completing the transaction for Rs. 4,500.

Following a complaint from Prem Nivas, DVAC – Coimbatore team on instruction from the Deputy Superintendent of Police Murugesan laid a trap. The DVAC team that was lying in wait trapped Suresh Kumar while he was accepting the bribe. He was booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act and was produced before the Coimbatore District Second Additional Sessions Court and lodged in judicial custody at the Coimbatore Central Prison.

Officials also conducted a search at his office and at his residence.
