Coimbatore TNAU Scientist wins a National Award


Coimbatore: The Fertilizer Association of India (FAI) presented the Golden Jubilee Award to Dr. K.S. Subramanian, Director of Research, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, for his excellent contribution in the field of plant nutrition for the year 2020.

His active participation in the nano-fertilizer research for the past ten years that lead to the development of novel customized fertilizers and smart delivery systems to improve nutrient use efficiencies in pulses, groundnut and maize. The FAI Award carries One Lakh cash prize with a gold medal and citation.

The Minister of State for Chemicals & Fertilizers Mansukh L. Mandaviya, presented the award to Dr. K.S. Subramanian in a FAI Golden Jubilee Award Ceremony held at the India Habitat Center, New Delhi, on 7.12.2020. More than 100 chief executives representing various fertilizer industries and government officials in the country participated in the event. The Central Minister and the other delegates applauded the efforts of TNAU in bringing cutting edge technologies to reduce the cost of fertilizers while improving nutrient use efficiencies and environmental safety.

Dr. N. Kumar, Vice Chancellor, TNAU, congratulated Dr. K.S. Subramanian and suggested that TNAU is involved in developing regulatory guidelines for the use of nano-agri inputs and food products that was launched by the Government of India in September 2020 and TNAU also partnering in setting the parameters for testing the nano-fertilizers under Fertilizer Control Order. In addition, the Nanotechnology Center has developed fruit preservatives (nano-emulsion & nano-stickers), nano-pesticide against tea mosquito bugs, nano-sensors for on-site detection of leaf moisture and nitrogen, encapsulation of functional foods, nano-sanitizer against COVID 19 and many more on the stage of validation.
