TNAU signs MoU with Salem's Periyar University in Coimbatore

Both parties, having discussed fields of common research interests and allied activities between the two institutions have decided to enter into long-term collaboration for promotion of students’ training and quality post-graduate research in cutting edge areas.


Coimbatore: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), Coimbatore with Periyar University, Salem for facilitating post-graduate students’ research and training.

TNAU is the recipient of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research’s (ICAR’s) prestigious Sardar Patel Outstanding ICAR Institution Award and the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2023 ranked TNAU at 5th position in Agriculture and Allied Sector Category. Salem's Periyar University is mandated to provide a vibrant learning environment, fostering innovation and creativity, inspired by cutting-edge research.

Dr. N Senthil, Dean (SPGS), TNAU, Coimbatore welcomed the gathering and detailed the significance of this particular meeting. Both parties, having discussed fields of common research interests and allied activities between the two institutions have decided to enter into long-term collaboration for promotion of students’ training and quality post-graduate research in cutting edge areas such as Joint course material development, Improving the existing climate Weather Research and Forecasting model in TNAU, Seasonal forecast accuracy and to forewarn the farmers in a precise manner.

Periyar University Vice-Chancellor envisioned the possibilities of collaboration with the Department of Physics to develop e-Nose technology for quantifying the volatile chemicals. To support Periyar University advance its field of biotechnological research, TNAU's experience in bioinformatics can be used for key molecule identification, drug design and modelling.



The signing authorities, Dr. R TamizhVendan, Registrar, TNAU, Coimbatore and Dr. K Thangavel, Registrar, Periyar University, Salem signed the agreement and exchanged the MoU in the presence of Dr. V Geethalakshmi, Vice-Chancellor, TNAU, Coimbatore and Dr. R Jagannathan, Vice-Chancellor, Periyar University, Salem where they remarked about the essentiality of this academic collaboration and the way forward. Delegates from TNAU and Periyar University attended the signing ceremony.
