Coimbatore: The District Collector has informed that all those who visited D R Ganesh Sah Silks textile shop in Masakalipalayam, near Peelamedu, Coimbatore in the month of June should come forward and get themselves tested for COVID-19.

In a press release issued regarding this he said, "COVID-19 prevention and awareness measures are being undertaken in full swing in Coimbatore district. Under the concerted and dedicated efforts of the Health, Police and Revenue departments and other local bodies, on-field measures are being undertaken.

Due to their continued efforts there were no reported cases of COVID-19 in the district, until the end of May. Even during the lockdown the number of cases reported were not many and factories and businesses and various shops were permitted to reopen with a lot of restrictions.

Only people who had to travel into the district for medical reasons and unavoidable social commitments such as weddings were provided E-passes. In June, a COVID positive from the Chinniampalayam area who travelled from Chennai, and had been to other places, entered into the district without authorization. Without the knowledge that he was infected, he travelled to various other places. Later he was tested positive for the disease and passed away without responding to treatment. However, he had infected more than 40 people who are under treatment now. The entire area has been isolated and is being monitored now.

When the employees of D R Ganesh Sah Silks situated in a residential area at the Masakalipalayam area near Peelamedu were tested for COVID-19, one of them tested positive for COVID-19. Following this, the textile shop was closed and the employees and the customers who visited the shop were traced and tested. 45 people tested positive for the virus and are under treatment. The street where the textile shop was located and the hostels where the employees resided have been closed down and people who reside there are banned from coming out. The entire area has been converted into a containment zone.

Hence, the people who visited D R Ganesh Sah Silks in the past month, from other districts and from many places in Coimbatore, have been asked to isolate themselves for a period of 14 days. Similarly, if anyone exhibits symptoms of the disease such as fever, cough, cold and breathlessness they are asked to come forward themselves and get tested for COVID-19 at Primary Health centers or the Government hospitals.

The public must refrain from going out for non-essential reasons at times of disaster like the current one. Moreover precautionary measures such as wearing face masks, maintaining social distancing and washing hands frequently must be undertaken.

Officers have been advised to close down shops and organisations that do not follow the government issued guidelines and thereby become a concern for the spread of the disease. Cases would be filed against such establishments too. The public must cooperate with the District Administration for the COVID-19 prevention measures that are being undertaken in the district, informed the District Collector.
