Model roads project in three months likely in our city

As a part of the smart city project, the civic body has plans to complete the model road project in the next three months. According to sources, the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) along with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) conducted a field inspection on D.B. Road and T.V. Swamy Road, which has been ear-marked for model roads, yesterday, 1st February. The officials checked the alignment of power and telephone cables so that they could be embedded inside the proposed ducts.

Sources share that the CCMC with support from NGO Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) would transform 1.80 km of D.B. Road and 1.20 km of T.V. Swamy Road into model roads by constructing pedestrian-friendly pavements, embedding poles and cables underground, erecting uniform sign boards and re-modelling junctions to facilitate easy turning for buses.

As a part of this project, native trees would be planted to add more greenery to the locale.
