'Kongunadu Kaalnadai Thiruvizha' -A celebration of native cattle breeds by Vanavarayar Foundation.

'Vanavarayar Foundation' will be hosting the third edition of the three-day ‘Kongunadu Kaalnadai Thiruvizha’ at Samathur in Pollachi. This programme is being hosted in an effort to preserve the native cattle breeds of the region from 3rd to 5th February, 2017. The 'Vanavarayar Foundation' has been engaged in preserving the art, culture and heritage symbols of our city.

Ages ago, cattle and humans were inseparable. Cattle was man's best friend especially the farmers'. The role played by cattle in agriculture and dairy farming is indispensable. With the advent of technology, the role of cattle in agriculture drastically diminished, as tractors and allied machines came into being. As a mark of respect and to celebrate the contributions of cattle to mankind, this one-of-a kind exhibition is all set to flag off tomorrow at Samathur for the third consecutive year..

Cattle of various breeds, which are native to South India will be showcased during this event. The show will also educate the visitors about the varied breeds of cattle including horse and ram. For the first time, the organizers have added native dogs as a part of the expo.

The event is regarded as the biggest of it's kind in Tamil Nadu showcasing 1300 cattle breeds, 50,000 plus visitors and prizes worth 6 lakhs to the winners. Cultural events, beauty contests for cattle, exhibition on milk farms, agricultural equipments, insight on dairy farming and much more 'unheard' and 'forgotten' facts on native cattle awaits the visitors.

The event will begin with a special komatha pooja with participation of 108 cows. The participants are advised to register on or before 4th February.
