Kupendran has been arrested for allegedly hacking Rangaraj, a finance company owner, to death with a sickle while he was sleeping in his house over a family dispute at Thimmampalayam Pudur near Mettupalayam.
Coimbatore: Rangaraj (67), a native of Thimmampalayam Pudur in Karamadai near Mettupalayam in Coimbatore district lived with his wife Kamala. The couple had a daughter Savita and son Karthik.
Savita was married and lived with her husband in the same village. Rangaraj and his wife Kamala got divorced a year ago due to irreconcilable differences and as a result, Rangaraj was living alone.
Kupendran (57), brother of Rangarajan hails from Sirumugai Fruit Garden and cultivates land owned by the Public Works Department (PWD) near Bhavanisagar reservoir in Lingapuram area. His wife passed away seven years ago due to ill-health.
For the past three months, Kupendran had been staying at his brother Rangaraj's house in Thimmampalayam Pudur area. It is reported that there were frequent quarrels between the two brothers.
On Saturday night, a dispute broke out between the two after which they reportedly went to sleep. However, in a fit of rage, Kupendran is said to have hacked Rangaraj with a sickle in the wee hours of Sunday morning.
Upon receiving information, the Karamadai police reached the spot and registered a case against Kupendran. Thereafter, he was arrested and the police are investigating the murder.
