Vanathi Srinivasan further stated that though the police are conducting an investigation, as the State's Chief Minister, Stalin should have at least condemned the incident and that would also give hope to the people of Coimbatore.
Coimbatore: Coimbatore South BJP MLA Vanathi Srinivasan has questioned the silence of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M K Stalin on the car cylinder explosion in Ukkadam area in the early hours of Sunday, in which one person was killed.
In a statement, Vanathi Srinivasan said, "At around 4.30 am on October 23, the day before Diwali, in a shocking incident, a car exploded in Kottaimedu area of Coimbatore. Jamesha Mubin who was in the car, died in the explosion. Following this, the police conducted a raid at the house of Jamesha Mubin. Ammonium nitrate, battery, iron nails and other items required to make bombs were seized. Jamesha Mubin had already been questioned by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) earlier.
For 25 years, Coimbatore was the target of terrorists due to serial bomb blasts and riots. The families of those killed in the Coimbatore blasts and those injured are yet to recover. As a result, the development of Coimbatore city which should have grown into an IT city on a large scale like Bangalore, Hyderabad and Pune was severely affected.
Therefore, this car explosion incident, as a cylinder explosion, should not simply pass through. Is this a rehearsal for carrying out a terrorist attack? Was it a conspiracy to disrupt Diwali celebrations? On October 23, the day the incident took place, I had issued a statement demanding an inquiry into all aspects. But it is sad that even after three days of the incident, Chief Minister M K Stalin who is in charge of the police is maintaining silence without making any comment. Though the police are conducting an investigation, as the State's Chief Minister, Stalin should have at least condemned the incident. The Chief Minister should have issued a statement to give hope to the people of Coimbatore who are afraid that it will happen like 1998 or that the economy of Coimbatore will suffer. But it is condemnable to remain silent for three days."
"As the materials required to make the bomb have been seized from the house of Jameza Mubin, who died in the car explosion, the Tamil Nadu Government should transfer the case to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for investigation. The case should be investigated by the NIA. On matters related to terrorism, the DMK is not ready for any compromise. The Government should not give space. Otherwise, we will have to pay the price," stated Coimbatore South MLA, Vanathi Srinivasan in the statement.
