Coimbatore car blast: Police raid homes of those arrested

The Special Cell Police are conducting raids at the residences of the five men who were initially arrested in the case. All unattended cars in the vicinity of the houses of the arrested men are being removed.


Coimbatore: Jameesha Mubin was charred to death when his car exploded near the Kottai Easwaran temple in Ukkadam on October 23. An investigation carried out under the direct supervision of top police officials in connection with the case revealed that the conspiracy was planned to be hatched in Coimbatore and kilograms of explosives were also found at the house of the deceased Mubin.

While five men Mohammed Talka (25), Mohammad Azharuddin (23), Mohammad Riyaz (27), Firoz Ismail (27) and Mohammad Nawaz Ismail (26) from Ukkadam have already been arrested and jailed under Sections pertaining to conspiracy, promoting enmity between two groups and the UAPA Act, the Special Cell police have arrested Afsar Khan, a relative of Mubin on Thursday night and are investigating.

While all of the arrested are in judicial custody, the Special Task Force (STF) police have taken them into custody for three days and are interrogating them for further details pertaining to the conspiracy.



The Special Cell police also conducted searches at the houses of the arrested persons on Friday morning. No information has yet been released on the items seized at the end of the raids.

Vehicles that were lying unattended in the areas where the arrested six had been been housed were removed by the police. The case will be taken up by the National Investigation Agency from Friday.
