Locals panic as CCTV cameras capture movement of bears in Kotagiri residential areas

Fearing the frequent movement of bears in Aravenu's Periyar Nagar area of Kotagiri, people in the area have demanded that the Forest Department capture the bears immediately.

Nilgiris: Kotagiri and its surrounding areas in the Nilgiris district have a large number of tea plantations. In the recent past, there have been instances of bears frequently roaming through these tea gardens in search of food and water.

The movement of leopards and bears has been on the increase especially in the Periyar Nagar area on the Kotagiri-Aravenu stretch. A few days ago, two bears had entered a house compound in Aravenu's Periyar Nagar and had begun fighting. The CCTV footage of the fight has since gone viral on social media, causing locals in the area to be panic-stricken.

On Wednesday, two bears were again seen roaming in the residential areas in Kotagiri. The visuals were captured on a CCTV camera installed in the area.

Fearing the frequent movement of bears in their area, locals have requested the Forest Department to immediately capture the bears and relocate them to the forest areas.
