20 injured as Govt. bus loses control near Kotagiri; Crashes into mud patch by the roadside

The Government bus was on its way to Coonoor from Kotagiri in Nilgiris district, when the driver suddenly lost control and crashed into a mud patch by the roadside. 20 people were seriously injured and are being treated in a hospital.



The Nilgiris: A state-run bus carrying passengers from Kotagiri in the Nilgiris district left for Coonoor on Tuesday morning and veered onto a mud patch by the roadside near KPS College in Kotagiri when the driver lost control of the bus. 20 persons were seriously injured and have been admitted in the hospital.



The driver of the bus lost control and rammed into a two-wheeler coming from the opposite direction and crashed into a mud patch on the side of the road. Mahendran, who was on the two-wheeler was seriously injured while more than 19 people, including the driver of the Government bus were seriously injured.



The injured were immediately rescued and admitted to the Kotagiri Government Hospital where they are presently being treated. Meanwhile, the driver of the bus, Raghuraman, and Mahendran have been shifted to the Coimbatore Government Hospital for further treatment.



While the Kotagiri police have registered a case and are investigating the matter, preliminary investigations reveal that the accident occurred due to the operation of a dilapidated Government bus.
