Post-monsoon survey of Mudumalai Tiger Reserve forest begins

According to the Forest Department, a total of 150 people are involved in the six-day wildlife census, which will be conducted by 50 teams, with three members per team.



The Nilgiris: The inner zone area of Mudumalai Tiger Reserve in the Nilgiris district covers an area of 321 sq. km. Elephants, tigers, deer, bears, bison and a large number of wildlife live in this forest area. It is customary to conduct a pre-monsoon and post-monsoon survey of the number of wild animals every year.



Accordingly, the post-monsoon survey kick-started this morning with about 150 people engaged in the process of surveying the wildlife.



According to the Forest Department, a total of 150 people are involved in the six-day wildlife census, which will be conducted by 50 teams, with three members per team. While a total of 50 teams have been formed, each of these teams is in the process of dividing the forest area into a straight line path and surveying it.



Regarding the wildlife census, from Wednesday onwards, a survey of wildlife remains, footprints, etc. will be carried out for two days. After two days, the survey will be carried out accurately by directly observing the stream and the number of the wildlife. In this six-day mission, the survey will be carried out accurately using a specially- developed mobile app, as well as thermometers and GPS devices.

After the completion of six days, it is possible to accurately ascertain the number of wildlife before the monsoon and the number of wildlife after the monsoon.
