'Tamil Nadu Govt. allocated Rs.15 crore for repairing damages caused by southwest monsoon in Nilgiris:' District Collector, S P Amrith

The Government of Tamil Nadu has allocated a total of Rs.15 crore for 82 works to be done to repair the damages suffered in the Nilgiris district, during the Southwest monsoon.



The Nilgiris: In a statement issued here in Ooty, the Nilgiris District Collector S P Amrith stated that the Nilgiris district witnessed heavy rains during the last southwest monsoon.

"Due to heavy rains, compound walls, retaining walls, footpaths and bridges were damaged at a number of places in Coonoor, Gudalur and Nelliyalam areas of the Nilgiris district. Following this, Nilgiris MP A Raja and Forest Minister K Ramachandran inspected the flood situation. They also assessed the damages caused due to the rains through the officials of the Department and sent a report to the Government of Tamil Nadu.

Accordingly, Rs. 463.75 lakh is required for 30 works including construction of storm water drain in Coonoor municipality. Rs. 663.67 lakh is required for 35 works in Gudalur municipality, including a minor bridge, retaining wall and drainage. A total of 82 works costing Rs.15 crore, including Rs. 384.60 lakh for 17 works including drainage and footpaths in Nelliyalam municipality were requested from the Government of Tamil Nadu.

At present, administrative sanction has been obtained from the Municipalities Department to carry out the capital subsidy fund through savings fund, and the works will start soon," assured the Nigiris Collector in his statement.
