Four persons have been arrested for smuggling gold on a flight from UAE to Coimbatore. Police have seized 12 kg of jewellery worth Rs 6.5 crore.
Coimbatore: Gold bars concealed on flights from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Sri Lanka have been seized at airports in Chennai and Trichy in the recent past.
In this situation, central revenue intelligence officials were on surveillance duty at the Coimbatore airport. Officials checked the belongings of 18 passengers on board an Air Arabia flight from Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates to Coimbatore on suspicion.
Suresh Kumar from Chennai, Shankar from Cuddalore, Ram prabhu from Paramakudi and Kumaravel from Salem were found to be smuggling gold ornaments by hiding gold ornaments in their clothes.
Following this, the officials seized 12 kg of jewellery worth Rs 6.5 crore from their possession and arrested the four men.
