The bear was released in the forest area of Mukurthi National Park after the Forest Department trapped the prowling bear in a cage after it entered houses in search of food at night in Manjoor area, causing panic among locals.
Nilgiris: A bear has been roaming freely in the Manjoor Bazaar area of Nilgiris district for the past few months. It is reported that the bear's movements involved going into tea gardens during the day to sleep and entering residential areas at night to scour for food by breaking open the doors and windows of houses and shops.
Since the locals in Manjoor area were perpetually living in fear of being attacked by the bear, they had requested the Forest Department to trap the bear. Following this, the Forest Department in Nilgiris identified areas to monitor the bear's movements and had kept a cage last week to trap the bear.
After the bear was trapped in the cage early Wednesday morning, the bear was taken to the nearby Mukurthi National Park forest area and released.
Locals in Manjoor area are finally relieved that the bear which had been rampaging their residential areas for the past few days has finally been trapped.
