Dravidar Viduthalai Kazhagam paid homage to the martyred activists on November 26, 1957, when nationwide protests were held against Articles 13, 25, 26 and 372 of the Constitution of India for the protection of castes.
Coimbatore: On November 26, 1957, a nationwide protest was held against Articles 13, 25, 26 and 372 of the Constitution of India for the protection of castes.
A demonstration was held by burning down the provisions of the Indian Constitution. More than 3,000 people were arrested and jailed, many of whom died in prison.
Since then, tribute is paid to the deceased on this day every year.

Following this, the Coimbatore District Dravidar Viduthalai Kazhagam organized a valour ceremony in front of Periyar's statue in Gandhipuram area on Saturday.
Members of various Dravidian parties and organisations, including the Dravida Viduthalai Kazhagam, Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, participated in the event and paid homage to the deceased.
