Awareness Signature Campaign held in Ooty on World AIDS Day; Minister K Ramachandran signs and inaugurates campaign

Minister K Ramachandran and Nilgiris District Collector S P Amrith attended the signature campaign held at the Tamil Nadu Government Guest House in Ooty and also took the AIDS Day Pledge.


The Nilgiris: The World AIDS Day awareness signature campaign was held at the Tamil Nadu Government Guest House in Ooty, in the Nilgiris district.

Forest Minister K Ramachandran participated in the World AIDS Day awareness signature campaign organised by the Tamil Nadu State AIDS Control Society and signed the awareness signature campaign.



Later, Forest Minister K Ramachandran and Nilgiris District Collector S P Amrith took the pledge for World AIDS Day.

Speaking at the event, Forest Minister K Ramachandran said, "World AIDS Day is observed on December 1, every year. In order to create awareness among the public about the disease, various awareness programmes are being carried out. HIV disease is not transmitted by playing with those infected or using their items.

Everyone should give our support to the victims and give them and their children an opportunity to live. Counselling and testing for HIV AIDS in our district is done in a Trust Centre functioning at all Government Primary Health Centres and Government Hospitals. Their condition is kept secret and checked free of charge through a mobile trust center vehicle."

"The Government of Tamil Nadu has issued a toll-free bus travel card for people suffering from HIV AIDS to reach the hospital for treatment. Under the Chief Minister's 'Uzhavar Suraksha Yojana,' it provides monthly pension, old age pension, insurance scheme, priority to those who do not have a ration card and also provides facilities such as ration card, scholarship, etc. Subsequently, an order was issued to 16 beneficiaries to receive temporary disability allowance on a monthly basis," added the Minister.

Minister K Ramachandran distributed health insurance cards to three beneficiaries under the Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme and participated in the Sambandhi programme.



Earlier, District Collector S P Amrith inaugurated an awareness walkathon on the occasion of AIDS Day at the Ooty Railway Station and pasted stickers on autos on AIDS awareness.

More than 200 students from Emerald Heights Women's College, School of Nursing Training, JSS College of Pharmacy and CSI College of Engineering, Ketti participated in the rally and carried banners on AIDS awareness. The rally started at the Ooty Railway Station and culminated at the Shanthi Vijay Girls Higher Secondary School in Ooty.

Ooty Revenue Divisional Officer Duraisamy, Joint Director (Medical) Palaniswami, District Collector's Personal Assistant Dhanapriya, Deputy Director (Health Services) Balusamy, Regional Transport Officer Thyagarajan, Ooty Tahsildar Rajasekhar, District Project Officer Tamil Nadu AIDS Control Society Arivazhagan and other Government officials were present on the occasion.
