On the occasion of World Day of the Differently Abled, an awareness rally was organised by the Research and Development Organisation for the Differently Abled in Coimbatore. More than 50 differently-abled persons participated and accepted the pledge.
Coimbatore: World Day for the Differently Abled is celebrated every year on December 3 inorder to provide an enabling environment for the differently abled persons to live with equal rights and opportunities. This day is being observed with an emphasis on creating awareness in the society to give them equal opportunity in all spheres of life.
On this day, various sports competitions and cultural programmes have been organised across the country, to encourage the differently abled persons and prizes will be given to them in recognition of their talents.
Accordingly, a social awareness rally was organised by the Research and Development Institutefor for the Differently Abled, in assocation with All Women Differently Abled Welfare Association in the city today.
The rally taken out was to create awareness among the public about the differently abled persons such as ramp facility, wheelchair facility for differently abled persons in all types of private and government offices.
The rally was flagged off by Vasantha Ram Kumar, District Differently Abled Welfare Officer, Coimbatore, from the District Collectorate campus, and it culminated at the Corporation office.
More than 50 differently-abled people took out a procession in their vehicles and more than 50 students of private colleges took out a walkathon and they carried placards to create awareness.
Various NGOs including Young Indian, Rotary Club of Coimbatore, Rotary Club of Akruti, Rotary Club of Cosmopolitan participated took part in the rally.
An awareness torch was presented to Young Indian volunteers on behalf of the Research and Development Institute for the Differently Abled.
At the end of the rally, differently-abled persons took the pledge.
