Tirupur: Sri Ram runs an iron metal shop in Poyampalayam near Perumanallur in Tiruppur district. He also owns a godown in the same area where old goods are stored.
At about 7 pm last night, smoke emanated from the godown and fire broke out suddenly.
Tirupur North fire tenders rushed to the spot and battled on to douse the fire. Fire men battled for two hours before the last embers were put down.
According to the godown owner "as there was no electricity connection in the godown as the godown was not used at night time.. As, it was Karthigai Deepam yesterday, a lamp or a crackers might have fallen from nearby houses which may have caused the fire"
Anupparpalayam police have filed a case and are investigating.
