Coimbatore: Due to heavy rains in Thondamuthur and surrounding areas yesterday, flood waters entered residential areas in Attukal area. The affected have been sheltered in a community hall.

Coimbatore district, which is in the foothills of the Western Ghats have been receiving continuous rains since yesterday.

Normal life has been severely affected in many parts, as the water from the hill in Attukal area has entered Puthoor and New Colony in the area. Around 120 families have been evacuated and sheltered at a nearby Community hall and given food.

Thondamuthur Town Panchayat employees are draining the rainwater from the residential areas through pump sets, and engaging lorries.
Sanitation workers are also cleaning the accumulated waste in the flooded areas.
