Man dies by suicide after losing money in online gambling

Sankar, an engineering graduate from Uppilipalayam in Coimbatore, died by suicide in his room in a lodge in Ramnagar area after he allegedly lost lakhs of rupees in online gambling.


Coimbatore: Even as young people who had been addicted to online gambling and losing money in the process had become the order of the day, the death of the young man due to online gaming had raised the hackles of many.

Recently, as many as four persons had ended their life after they lost money in online gambling, which the TN government is trying to ban by passing a bill in the Assembly.

Sankar, an engineering graduate from Uppilipalayam in Coimbatore is the latest victim of this modern - day menace.

The youth, died by suicide after renting a room in a lodge in the Ramnagar area after he allegedly lost lakhs of rupees in online gambling.

In the hope of hitting the jackpot in online gambling, more people are falling prey to this trap, and evenutally lose hefty money.

In recent times three persons including a Policeman and a Bank employee in Coimbatore, had ended their life after losing money in online gambling. Shankar, an engineer, is the fourth one to have taken the extreme decison

According to Police, Shankar, who had stayed in a lodge in Coimbatore's Ram Nagar area, had not come out for the past two days. As a result, the hotel manager Sivadasan got suspicious and opened the room with an alternate key.

When one of the hotel staff went inside the room, he found that Shankar had ended his life by hanging The police, who rushed to the spot, recovered Shankar's body and sent it for post-mortem.

During the investigation, the police recovered a letter in which Shankar had written saying that he had committed suicide as he had lost money due to online gambling

It is said he had borrowed lot of money from friends to play the online game.

It is a known fact that the TN government had passed a bill in the assembly and sent it for Governor's assent. But the Governor is yet to give assent to the Online aboliton bill Only after the Governor's assent it will be enacted as a law..
