Avinashilingam University signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Jeju National University, S. Korea for a period of 5 years. The main objective of this MoU is to take up joint research in areas of mutual interest, exchange of students for internships between both the Institutes and to formulate joint projects for International funding agencies.
Dr. Min, Tae Sun, Senior Faculty of Animal Biotechnology Division, Jeju National University, who had also served as a senior advisor of National Research Foundation of Korea for more than a decade. He has identified the growth potential of women students in India and mediated the present MoU. During his tenure as advisor, he has facilitated MoUs with leading Institutes in Korea like the Gyeongsang National University, ChungAng University, KyungHeeUnivesity and KyungPook National University. Several students and faculty from Avinashilingam University had the opportunity to undergo short-term and long-term training on Genomics, metabolomics, and at large omics of medicinal plants. Dr. S. Kowsalya, the present Registrar of Avinashilingam University is also one among the seven faculty members who were beneficiaries of the earlier MoU’s.

The other faculty members who underwent training were
• Dr. P. Lalitha, Assistant professor in Chemistry and Dr. K. Kalaiarasi, Assistant Professor in Biotextiles got trained at Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST)
• Dr. S. Saravanaprabha, Assistant Professor in Physical Education got trained at Ewha Women’s University
• Dr. S. Kowsalya, Professor in Food Science and Nutrition got trained at KyungPook National University
• Dr. S. Manimegalai, Assistant Professor in Zoology, got trained at Chunnam National University
• Dr. K. Kalaiselvi and Dr. N. Santhi, Assistant Professors in Biochemistry and Bioinformatics got trained at Seoul National University.
Apart from this, three students (Dr.Sreepriya, Dr.Kalpana and Dr. Sri Renuga Devi) have been awarded doctoral degree with full fellowship and living allowance in the field of ginseng research, and 6 masters and 2 doctoral degree students had the opportunity to carryout part of their research work in Korea with complete financial assistance.
With the present MoU the previous activities will further be strengthened, as several areas of mutual interest like animal biotechnology, nutrigenomics, plant genomics and food technology have been identified for the easy movement of undergraduate students and post graduate students along with faculty.
The possibilities of having one year exchange programs for ongoing undergraduate courses are also to be discussed.
