Tirupur: The protesting public handed over their proof of identity documents demanding to retrieve encroached temple lands near Uthukuli from private hands and said that repeated appeals have fell on deaf ears.
Maakaliamman Temple, is the family deity of the Nadar community, which is more than 100 years old, and it is situated at Velliraveli near Kunnathur in Uthukuli taluk of Tirupur district.
The temple, which is under the control of the HR&CE department,and known for festivals and three poojas performed every day. Mohan Kumar and Chinnasamy, who are politically influential people, have allegedly encroached upon the temple land in recent years.
The residents of the area have also alleged that despite repeated representations to the authorities, no action has been taken in this regard.
Demanding the immediate retrieval of the temple land, the people of the area staged a protest at the District Collectorate demanding the handing over of their voter ID cards and Aadhar cards.
