Rangammal, was a native of Onnakkarasampalayam near Annur in Coimbatore district and she belonged to the oppressed classes. When she died due to old age, her body was taken to the crematorium to be buried.
It is alleged that some unidentified persons objected to the burial saying that he belonged to the oppressed castes.
However the burial ceremony was performed after Government officials who arrived at the scene held talks and pacified both groups.
Condemning against caste discrimination, the Dalit Viduthalai Katchi staged a protest in front of the Coimbatore South Tahsildar's office against the prevention of burial of the body on the basis of caste.

Slogans were raised condemning the incident at the protest. It also urged the Central government, which has been claiming 'one nation, one ration', to take the stand of 'one cremation ground' for all castes and communities.
Dalit Viduthalai Katchi state general secretary Sengottaiyan participated in the protest. Joint general secretaries Viduthalai Selvan and Shakuntala Thangaraj took part.
