Two youth tactfully trapped brokers who had called them for prostitution to a house near Pudupalayam in Coimbatore. The Kovilpalayam police rescued the six women forced into prostitution and handed them over to the shelter home.
Coimbatore: Nandakumar and his friend Krishnakumar, a resident of Shanthi Medu in the city's Press Colony area, were on their way back from visiting a private bank in Keeranatham area.
A man reportedly stopped their two-wheeler near Pudupalayam in Keeranatham and told them that his name was Gunasekaran and that they could have fun with women for Rs 1,000 per hour, if they accompanied him. Nandakumar and his friend went to a house in a layout in Keeranatham Panchayat area of S S Kulam Union which was the address given by Gunasekaran. There were 6 women and 3 people in the house.
Nandakumar and Krishnakumar who originally intended to inform the police about the illegal prostitution racket excused themselves from the house saying that they did not have any money and needed to go out to withdraw from the ATM.
Following this, both friends saw the Kovilpalayam police patrolling in the area and informed them. The Kovilpalayam police conducted a raid at the house address mentioned by the friends. It was discovered that a gang of four men from Thudiyalur, Saibaba Colony, Nallampalayam and Udumalaipettai were luring women into prostitution.
Following this, the police rescued the six women who were involved in the prostitution and sent them to a shelter home.
Later, a case was registered against Gunasekaran (45) and Vijayakumar (40) of Periyanaickenpalayam, Murugavel (30) of Sundarapuram and Mahendran (28) of Rajapalayam for forcing the women into prostitution. The police also jailed the four members of the gang and warned that strict action will be taken against those who abuse women in this manner.
