Inspector Amudha, Sub-Inspector Rajesh Khanna and constables who were on patrol duty in Periyanaickenpalayam area nabbed a person named Vignesh who was in possession of a high-grade drug called methamphetamine.
Coimbatore: The City and District police have been intensifying vehicle checks and night patrolling to curb drug use and drug peddling in Coimbatore district. In particular, various wings of the Police including the Special Cell and the Prohibition Enforcement Police have stepped in to beef up efforts to eradicate drugs completely in the District.
The Prohibition Enforcement Police Inspector Amudha, Sub-Inspector Rajesh Khanna and constables were on patrolling duty in Periyanaickenpalayam area on the outskirts of Coimbatore on Wednesday when they spotted a person standing at the Govindanaickenpalayam bus stand.
When the man was interrogated, it was revealed that he was Vignesh (26), a native of Kondayampalayam. Later, the police searched his belongings and found Vignesh to be in possession of methamphetamine, a high-grade drug that is highly addictive.
Following this, the police arrested him and seized 5.25 grams of methamphetamine and half a kg of ganja from his possession which was intended for sale.
He was later produced in court and sent to jail.
The District Superintendent of Police, V Badrinarayanan announced that if the public were aware of drug peddling or any unlawful activity in the city, they should inform the police without hesitation.
