Worker beaten to death over dispute at TASMAC bar in Coimbatore's Malumichampatti; 2 arrested, 3 surrendered in Court

39-year old Prabhakaran was killed when a group of five men attacked him on Monday when he was on his way to a TASMAC outlet with his friends in Malumichampatti., in Coimbatore. After two of the gang members were arrested, three persons who were absconding surrendered before the Ramanathapuram District Court.


Coimbatore: Two persons have been arrested in connection with the lynching of a worker at Malumichampatti in Coimbatore. Three persons, who were absconding, surrendered before the Ramanathapuram Court.

Prabhakaran (39) is a native of Anbu Nagar in Malumichampatti, Coimbatore. He is survived by his wife and two daughters. On Monday, Prabhakaran along with his friends Gnanaprakash and Thamilselvan had gone to a nearby TASMAC shop to drink liquor. A dispute broke out between Prabhakaran and five youth who had come to drink liquor there.

When Prabhakaran was riding on his two-wheeler, he was followed by five youth who blocked his way and attacked him with a bat and a cement stone. Prabhakaran succumbed to his injuries at the Coimbatore Government Hospital. The Chettipalayam police have registered a case in connection with the incident and had formed a special squad to search for the absconding miscreants.

During an inquiry at a TASMAC shop, it was revealed that the youth had purchased liquor bottles online, using Gpay. Based on the mobile number given to them, the police launched a search operation. On further investigation, the police were able to nab Chandrasekhar (23) and Manikandan (19), both residents of Paramakudi. Following this, the police produced the two in Court and sent them to jail.

In addition, the Special Cell police went to Tirupur in search of the other three persons involved in the lynching, who had been absconding. Manikandan (27), Karan alias Karthikeyan (24) and Muneeswaran (27), all residents of Paramakudi who were working as Managers of a private bank in Singanallur in Coimbatore, who were absconding in connection with Prabhakaran's death, surrendered before the Ramanathapuram district court. All three who had surrendered have been sent to judicial custody.
