Police seized 10 kg of ganja smuggled in a container truck during an intensive vehicle check at Thudiyalur and remanded five of them.
Coimbatore: Anti-narcotic activities have been intensified in Coimbatore district. Drug peddlers in particular are being arrested almost on a daily basis by the special cell and prohibition police.
In this situation, the police have received a tip-off that ganja is being sold near Thudiyalur in Coimbatore. Based on this, police sub-inspector Guruchandra Vadivel and his team conducted a vehicle chrck at the Kavundampalayam check post area.
At that time, the police stopped the container truck that was passing by and checked it. It was found that the ganja was smuggled and stored in a truck for illegal sale.
Thangapandi and Rajendra Prasad from Coimbatore, Jeevanandam from Madurai district, Raja from Salem district and Udhayakumar from Chennai have been arrested.
The police seized 10 kg of ganja and a container truck from them and remanded the five arrested to judicial custody and sent them to jail.
District Superintendent of Police Badrinarayanan has warned that strict action will be taken against those indulging in such illegal activities.
