Police arrest four including college students for robbing a gay youth, who was approached via 'Grindr' app

Coimbatore: A 27-year-old man from Coimbatore has approached a gay through "Grindr", an app for the LGBTQ community only to rob him of his possessions including a gold chain and cell phone.

According to Police, Karthikeyan a young man had approached a homo sexual through the “Grindr” app using the fake name Rakhi on New Year's Eve.

Rakhi, then asked the 30- year old gay to visit an abandoned building near Saravanampatti and said that he could meet him in the dark and in private.

Believing this, the 30-year-old gay person went to the spot, only to be surrounded by a gang of four men who came in two-wheelers.

The four men then threatened the youth at knifepoint and snatched his gold chain, ring and mobile phone and fled from the spot.

Following this the victim lodged a complaint with Saravanampatti Police, who took up the investigation.

Police arrested Karthikeyan (27), a native of Thoothukudi district, who had used the fake name Rakhi and his accomplices Marichelvam (23) from Tirunelveli district, Abhiram (19) from Trichy and Hari Vishnu (21) from Kodaikanal. The last three are said to be studying in a private college.

Saravanampatti police seized the stolen items including a gold chain and mobile phone from the arrested.

The arrested were remanded in custody.
