Joint Committee of TASMAC All Unions petition Collector to prevent 'Mamool' demand of rowdy elements

Joint Committee of TASMAC All Unions has submitted a petition to the Coimbatore district collector alleging that private individuals are threatening and demanding Rs 2 "mamool" for each bottle sold through TASMAC outlets.

Coimbatore: The Joint Committee of TASMAC All Unions has submitted a petition to the District collector to take action against private parties who threaten and demand “maamool” from them on a regular basis.

According to their petition, there are more than 300 TASMAC shops functioning in Coimbatore district. Through this, liquor worth crores of rupees are being sold every day.

“In the meantime, some rowdy elements (names given as Thilak, Vicky, Sanjay) who are not related to the TASMAC management are threatening to pay us Rs 2 “mamool” for each bottle of liquor sold through TASMAC outlets. Even though we have already lodged a complaint with our authorities in this regard no action has been taken so far,” the petitioners said.

The petitioners also stated the sale inventory of TASMAC shops is shared with rowdy elements by some unscrupulous people.

Therefore, the District Collector should immediately intervene and prevent the extortion bid from being made by some unscrupulous elements.

The petitioners also demanded that action should be taken against those who are acting against the Tamil Nadu government and Minister holding the portfolio.

A copy of the petition has been submitted to the Superintendent of Police of Coimbatore and the City Police Commissioner.
