For the first time in Tamil Nadu, a women's night marathon will be held on February 25, which would be organized by Gem foundation and Charitable Trust to create awareness on stomach and cervical cancers among women.
Coimbatore: The night marathon for women is being organized on February 25 to create awareness on women's health and in particular to create awareness on stomach and cervical cancers among women. Gem Foundation has organized the event.
Coimbatore City Police Commissioner Balakrishnan released the logo of the forthcoming marathon at the City Police Commissioner’s office. The logo launch event was attended by Dr Palanivelu, Managing Trustee of Gem Foundation and Chairman of Gem Hospital.
Dr Palanivel, chairman of Gem Hospital said that Gem Foundation, in tie-up with Tamil Nadu Athletic Association, will organize a women's marathon and other programmes on February 25.
The marathon, which will be held at the VOC ground, is the first of its kind in Tamil Nadu to be held at night. The marathon will be held in three different categories including 3 km, 5km and 10.4 km. A special marathon will also be held for children in the age group of 7-14 years.
“The marathon is being held to create awareness on women's gastrointestinal health,” Dr Palanivelu said and added “The importance of nutritious food and Yoga exercises would be imparted to women on the occasion”
Cultural programmes will also be held during the event.
