Man steals four sovereign gold chain from elderly woman near Sundarapuram

Police are on the lookout for an unidentified person, who has stolen a four sovereign gold chain from an elderly woman on the pretext of enrolling her in the Prime Minister’s pension scheme near Sundarapuram.


Coimbatore: Police are on the lookout for an unidentified person, who duped and stolen a four sovereign of gold chain from an elderly woman on the pretext of enrolling her in the Prime Minister’s pension scheme near Sundarapuram.

According to police, Nanjammal (77), an elderly woman came to Ukkadam yesterday to buy things for the grocery shop she is running at Bodipalayam.

An unidentified person, offered her lift in his two wheeler as he claimed he too was going to Bodipalayam.

When he came near Sundarapuram private hospital on Pollachi road, the man suddenly stopped the two-wheeler and told her that she could be enrolled in Prime minister’s pension scheme for the unorganized sector.

He also asked Nanjammal to take off the gold chain she was wearing around her neck and wrap it in a paper as a photo should be taken for the purpose.

The man who took the chain left the place on the pretext of buying revenue stamp paper, but never returned.

Realising that she has been duped, Nanjammal lodged a complaint with the Podanur police station. Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case and are on the lookout for the miscreant who stole the chain.
