BJP cadres staged a protest demanding to arrest the protesters who burnt an effigy of Tamil Nadu Governor R.N.Ravi under the provisions of “Goondas Act”.
Coimbatore: Members of Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam burnt an effigy and a photo of Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi in Gandhipuram alleging that he was adopting anti-constitutional ways and not respecting the traditions of Tamil Nadu Assembly.
Meanwhile, BJP workers staged a protest in front of the BJP's district office in Siddhapudur condemning against the Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam activists, who protested against the Governor and burnt his effigy.
They demanded that the protesters should be arrested under the provisions of “Goondas Act”.
More than 30 BJP workers took part in the protest led by Coimbatore district BJP president Balaji Uthamaramasamy and raised slogans.
Following this, the police arrested all the BJP workers who staged the protest without any prior permission.
Speaking to reporters, Coimbatore district BJP president Balaji Uthamaramasamy said, "The burning of the effigy of the Governor by the Dravidian parties is against the Constitution of India and the law of the land. This has happened due to the instigation of the DK and DMK parties. Those involved in the burning of effigies should be arrested under the Goondas Act”.
”If no action is taken against the protesters we will continue with our protests” he added.
