Crop raiding elephant causes havoc in cultivable lands near Mavuthamipathi panchayat

The farmers are worried that a lone wild elephant roaming on the Walayar border has entered the agricultural fields in Mavuthampathi village and damaged the crops.


Coimbatore: Dharmaraj, a farmer, cultivates coconut, banana in his fields in Muruganpathi village of Mavuthamipathi panchayat on the Walayar border of Coimbatore district.



For the past one week, a lone wild elephant has been descending from a nearby forests and raiding the sorghum crops cultivated on half an acre and the coconut saplings of about three years old were also destroyed.



The elephant breaks the electric fences by throwing logs at it. The farmers have expressed anguish that the elephant is trying to attack those who try to drive them into the forest.

The farmers have appealed to Forest department officials to find a permanent solution to prevent wild elephant incursion into cultivable lands.
