When Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (TPDK) activists tried to burn an effigy of the Tamil Nadu Governor, R N Ravi in front of the Tirupur Corporation office, a scuffle broke out between the activists and the police who tried to stop them.
Tirupur: The Governor's address prepared by the Tamil Nadu Government for the Assembly session was read by the Governor without mentioning the Dravidian model of governance and the names of Thanthai Periyar, Perarignar Anna, Muthamizh Arignar Kalaignar and B R Ambedkar which has been opposed by various quarters.

Protesting against the TN Governor R N Ravi's behaviour, the Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (TPDK) activists raised slogans against the TN Governor near the Tirupur Corporation office on Tuesday and protested by slapping with slippers and tearing the Governor's effigy.

Following this, the activists also tried to burn an effigy of the Governor, following which a scuffle broke out between them and the police who tried to stop them.

The police then forcibly arrested the Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam members who were protesting and took them away.

There was a tense situation in the area for some time due to the incident.
