Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner Dr. K. Vijayakarthikeyan chaired a meeting today at the conference hall of the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) to discuss the measures that have to be implemented in order to prevent the spread of dengue fever in our city.
When speaking at this meeting Corporation Commissioner and presiding officer said “Dengue prevention measures are undertaken in all the 100 wards of the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation. Health department employees have undertaken the application of Abate mosquito repellent medicine in all the wards along with the removal of debris which prove to be the breeding ground for mosquitoes.”
“Coimbatore Corporation's mosquito eradication vehicles are also involved in mosquito eradication by spreading smoke with mosquito repellent. Dengue awareness programmes are also conducted in order to educate the public about the prevention, causes, symptoms and treatment of dengue.”
“Mosquitoes may breed in water that is stored in a pot, money plant containers and common water storage places. Hence advisory is issued to clean the water in such containers once in a week to prevent breeding mosquito worms.”
“Mass cleaning drives are organised with the help of CCMC workers. Training is provided to DOC employees who are involved in mosquito eradication a daily basis. People should cooperate with the officials who are on duty for this mission. As a precautionary measure, the water container should be kept airtight. The corporation engineers have been advised to keep a check on chlorine levels in the drinking water.”
“If people are experiencing symptoms of fever they should approach the nearest primary health centre or the Coimbatore Government Hospital (GH) without hesitation and without any delay.” he said.
Deputy Commissioner, P.Gandhimathi, District welfare officer Dr. K. Santhoshkumar, Assistant district welfare officer Dr. M. Santhoshkumar, all health department officials and corporation officials participated in this meeting.
