On the occasion of the 160th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, tributes were paid on behalf of the Ramakrishna Mutt at the memorial of J J Goodwin, who wrote about Vivekananda. The memorial is located in St.Thomas Church premises in Ooty.
The Nilgiris: The 160th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda is being celebrated across the country on January 12.
Special prayers and floral tributes were offered at the memorial of J J Goodwin, who wrote about Swami Vivekananda and made his teachings available to the world at large. The memorial is located at the St. Thomas Church premises in Ooty, in the Nilgiris district.
The event was presided over by Swami Parakirthamananda Maharaj of Ramakrishna Mutt, Ooty. "The abstract writer J J Goodwin is very important for Swami Vivekananda's words to be made available to the world. The younger generation should adhere to Vivekananda's words for a disciplined life and for a strong and clear mind," opined Swami Parakirthamananda Maharaj.
Reg. Emmanuel Velvendar of Thomas Church prayed and spoke at the event saying, "The views of such gurus have guided us so that people of all communities can live in love and peace."
Following this, Rev. Christopher also paid his tributes saying, "Human life is great. It is special to live by following the words of Swami Vivekananda in life."
The event was attended by many locals including students and teachers of Breeks Memorial School.
The event was organised on behalf of Manas Foundation and Ramakrishna Mutt in Ooty. At the end of the event, Sivadas, Managing Trustee of Manas Foundation thanked those gathered at the event to honour Swami Vivekananda's memory.
