Samathuva Pongal festival celebrations near Ooty - Collector Amrith

The District Collector attended the Samathuva Pongal celebrations held at Anikorai village near Ooty in the Nilgiris district and handed over a signed congratulatory letter signed by the Chief Minister to the women's self-help groups.


The Nilgiris: Health and Equality Pongal celebrations were held at the Community Hall of Anikorai village under Thuneri panchayat near Ooty in the Nilgiris district. District Collector SP Amrith was present on the occasion.

On this occasion, the ration card holders receiving rice were given 1 kg of raw rice, 1 kg of sugar, 1 whole sugarcane and Rs.1,000 each in cash. Following this, District Collector Amrith watched the bharatanatyam and tribal traditional dance performances of the girls of Anikorai Government Higher Secondary School and distributed mementos to them.



He also handed over signed congratulatory letters to five women self-help group members.

Subsequently, the Rural Development and Local Self Government Department, on behalf of the State Rural And Urban Livelihoods Mission, handed over a cheque of Rs.15 lakhs to the Women Self Help Group (SHGs) for starting a business with 'Vazhaga Valamudan'.



He distributed new clothes to the sanitation workers who worked well and visited the rangoli kolam specially erected on the occasion of Samathuva Pongal and Health Pongal and felicitated the SHG members.
