Train activists, Passengers appeal to Southern Railway to resume train service in Coimbatore- Dindigul section

The Coimbatore - Dindigul train services, when resumed would also provide access to metros like Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kochi by serving as a connecting service.


Tirupur: Politicians and train activists have urged the Southern Railway to resume train services which were run in Coimbatore- Dindigul sector, a good 20 years back and before the gauge conversion.

There has been a demand to restart the passenger train service between Coimbatore and Dindigul, which ran successfully 20 years ago when there was a metre gauge railway line connecting Coimbatore and Dindigul via Udumalapet.

Arguing that it will be very useful for the farmers, students, passengers travelling daily from more than 100 villages, the railway activists said traders, devotees, and the general public will be benefited.

The Coimbatore- Dindigul train services, when resumed would also provide access to metros like Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kochi by serving as a connecting service.

Around 70 lakh people will be benefitted by the resumption of train services in this vital section, as there are many railway stations on this route including Coimbatore, Pothanur, Kinathukadavu, Pollachi, Gomangalam, Udumalai, Maivadi Road, Madathukulam, Pushpathur, Palani, Chathirapatti, Oddanchatram, Akkaraipatti and Dindigul.

MPs Velusamy, Shanmugasundaram, P R Natarajan and MLAs Vanathi Srinivasan, Damodaran, Pollachi Jayaraman, Udumalai Radhakrishnan, Mahendran, I.P. Senthil Kumar.

Dindigul Srinivasan and Minister Sakkarapnai have been urging Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnav for the same in the recent months.
