Donating breast milk is like having Akshaya pathram, says Coimbatore woman who donates 106 litres of breast milk in 7 months

Coimbatore: Bhairav and Srividya are a couple from Vadavalli P N Pudur in Coimbatore. They have a 4-year-old son and a 10-month-old daughter.

Srividya has decided to donate breast milk since the birth of her first child and informed her husband Bhairav about it. As he too showed interest, they searched the internet to find out about breast milk donation.

Later, with the help of gynaecologists, Amirtham from Tirupur district has been donating breast milk from the fifth day of the birth of her second daughter through an NGO.

She has made it to the Asia Book of Records by donating 106 litres of breast milk in the last seven months. Sindhu Monika, a native of Coimbatore district, had earlier donated 42 litres of breast milk. In the last seven months, Srividya has donated 106 litres of breast milk.

Srividya's breast milk is kept in the breast milk bank at the Coimbatore Government Medical College Hospital, where it is distributed to the underweight infants.

When asked about this, Srividya said, "Most of the babies are struggling to get breast milk. Especially in newborns born daily at the Coimbatore Government Hospital, the babies are taken care of in an incubator as certain babies are underweight.

Babies who are so have difficulty in getting breast milk. When I came to know about this, I told my husband that I am going to breast milk due to his full cooperation.

Srividya said that she is doing her job well as not only her husband but also her mother and father gave her full support.

Moreover, there is no change in the beauty of women as they breastfeed their babies and donate breast milk, says Srividya. Breastfeeding will be secreted more to give milk like ‘akshaya pathram’.

Srividya said that in the recent past, there has been a slight increase in the number of people coming forward to donate breast milk due to the awareness among young women. He appealed to women to come forward to breastfeed and volunteers should also come in large numbers for such social work.
