Panchyat files transported by garbage collection vehicle for Grama Sabha meeting creates furore among villages near Mettupalayam

While the villagers had gathered there for the purpose, they were shocked to find important office files and documents being transported to the location in a garbage disposal truck for the Grama sabha meeting.

Coimbatore: On the occasion of Republic Day, a Grama Sabha meeting was being organised at Vellipalayam village which comes under Chikkadasampalayam panchayat near Mettupalayam.

While the villagers had gathered there for the purpose, they were shocked to find important office files and documents being transported to the location in a garbage disposal truck for the grama sabha meeting.

The alert youth who captured the scene in the mobile phones had been sharing the event on social media.

“How did the officials in the Panchayat office allow this to happen?" The files to be discussed in the gram sabha were brought to the scene in a garbage truck” the villagers demanded to know.

The Panchayat officials explained that since the Block Development Officer of Karamadai did not turn up for the Grama sabha meeting, and there was no other vehicle, the Panchayat records and files were transported in a garbage collection vehicle.

While there are already many allegations about the functioning of the Chikkadasampalayam panchayat office, the negligent handling of the files to be put in public view on the day of the Grama Sabha meeting had created resentment among the villagers.

In the meanwhile, the villagers urged the government to take appropriate action against those who brought the files in a garbage truck to the Grama sabha meeting.
