Prowling Tiger attacks and kills tribal woman near Theppakadu in Nilgiris district

A lone tiger, which has been roaming around the tribal settlements for the past two months attacked and killed a woman. In the past month it also attacked a Maadan, an anti-poaching guard, who sustained grievous injuries.



Nilgiris: In a shocking incident, a tiger attacked and killed a tribal woman in Theppakadu area In Mudumalai Tiger Reserve of the Nilgiris district

The woman named Mari was attacked by the tiger and it dragged her body into a bush to eat it.



The woman’s body was found in the bushes adjacent to the tribal residential areas near the pet elephant camp by the locals this morning.

There are three tribal settlements in Theppakadu area of Mudumalai Tiger Reserve in the Nilgiris district, including Elephant Padi, Light Padi and Thekkupadi.

In this situation, the people of the area have been continuously demanding that the tiger be captured and relocated.



The villagers said that the woman had gone missing since last evening, we couldn’t trace her as it was night time and we found her body in the morning.



On receiving information, the forest department recovered the woman's body and sent it for to post-mortem to Ooty.

The brutal killing of a tribal woman by a tiger has created panic among the tribals.
