Wild elephant attacks and breaks the windshield of Forest dept. vehicle near Valparai

The forest department, which has been patrolling day and night to prevent man-animal conflict and save human lives is using vehicles to monitor the forest areas.

Coimbatore: In a shocking incident, a wild elephant attacked and damaged a forest department vehicle, when forest department officials tried to drive it back into the forests.

Anamalai Tiger Reserve has two forest ranges, namely, Manampalli Forest Range and Valparai Forest Range. More than 100 forest officials are working in this forest range.

The forest department, which has been patrolling day and night to prevent man-animal conflict and save human lives, is using vehicles to monitor the forest areas.

Last night, more than 15 wild elephants entered the residential area from a nearby forest area in Iyerpadi Estate area near Valparai. On receiving the information, the forest department chased away the wild elephants using a vehicle.

But a wild elephant, which turned around, smashed the wind shield of the vehicle by punching it with its ivory.

Meanwhile, the residents of the area have demanded that the forest department officials should take immediate steps to detect the movement of wild elephants and drive them back into the dense forest area to prevent man-animal conflict.
