Monkey dies after being hit by a vehicle near Valparai

Long tailed Monkey (Karumanthi) died after being hit by an unidentified vehicle on the road leading to Sholayar dam near Valparai. The forest department has warned vehicles to ply carefully.



Coimbatore: In a tragic incident, Long tailed Monkey(Karumanthi) died after being hit by an unidentified vehicle near Valparai in Coimbatore district.

Valparai region is home to a large number of wild animals. More than 500 animals, including a rare species of lion-tailed monkey, live here. It is being protected by private NGOs, volunteers and forest department officials.



Meanwhile, the Long tailed Monkey (Karumanthi), which had come to cross the road in Sedal dam Anna Nagar area on the way to Sholayar dam from Valparai, was found dead after being hit by an unidentified vehicle.



Motorists passing by were shocked to see this and informed the forest department. Following this, the forest officials reached the spot and recovered the body of Long tailed Monkey (Karumanthi) and buried it after post-mortem.

In this situation, the forest department has issued an alert to vehicles to move slowly and carefully while coming on the Valparai forest road.
