A young man who tried to rob a Canara bank branch at Alangiyam near Dharapuram was caught by the public and handed over to the police.
Tirupur: A man who tried to rob a private bank near Dharapuram in Tirupur district has been caught by the public and handed over to the police.
Jayakumar is a resident of Gandhi Nagar near Dharapuram. His son Suresh (19) is a second-year student of a private polytechnic college in Dharapuram.
Suresh, a young man, had entered Canara bank wearing a black purdah and carrying in his hand, a gun and a time bomb as he planned to rob the Canara bank in movie style.
He threatened the bank manager with a knife and threatened to detonate the bomb and tried to rob him. Due to this, there was a lot of tension in the Alangiyam area.
One of the customers who came there hit Suresh on the head and the public surrounded him and caught him. The Alangiyam police were then informed.
Following this, the Alangiyam police, who reached the spot, arrested Suresh and took him to Alangiyam police station for questioning.
Dharapuram DSP Dhanarasu, inspector Manikandan and others interrogated Suresh, who was wearing a purdah, and found that he was involved in the bank robbery after watching movies.
The police investigation revealed that he had purchased a dummy hand gun, dummy time palm, knife and black purdah, through an online shopping platform.
Suresh has been admitted to the Dharapuram Government Hospital for treatment of a head injury sustained while being rounded up by the public.
