Suresh, a student, who planned to rob the Canara bank branch in Alagiyam in “Thunivu” movie style, entered the Canara bank with a pistol and a time bomb and wearing a black purdah.
Tirupur: A robbery attempt at a Canara Bank at Alangiyam near Dharapuram was foiled by the timely action of a farmer who managed to incapacitate the robber using the towel that he had worn.
The CCTV footage of this “Thunivu” movie-style robbery attempt has gone viral on social media.
According to the Police, Suresh (19), son of Jayakumar, a resident of Gandhi Nagar in Alangiyam. studying second-year at a private polytechnic college in Dharapuram planned to rob the bank.
He entered the bank in “Thunivu” movie style, wearing a black purdah, and entered the Canara bank with a pistol and a time bomb.
Suresh threatened Karunakaran (58), a farmer and a customer in the bank at knife Point. Suresh also threatened to set off a bomb blast inside the bank.
When the knife Suresh was holding fell down, accidentally Karunkaran used the moment to seize Suresh and incapacitate him with a towel he had worn by rolling it in Suresh’s hand.
The presence of mind of a farmer thus foiled a daring robbery attempt. Police rushed to the spot and arrested Suresh, who was remanded in custody.
