TNAU conducts two-day training program on 'Molecular Modeling and Docking' in Coimbatore

Among the 55 total registered participants (17 PG and 38 Ph. D students), 20 participants from different agricultural science departments which includes Agricultural Microbiology, Agricultural Entomology, Genetics and Plant Breeding, Plant Pathology, Plant Physiology, Sericulture, Nematology and Vegetable Science were selected for this program.



Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University’s Centre for Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology and the School of Post Graduate Studies jointly organized the PG finishing school program on 'Molecular Modeling and Docking' on February 4 and 5 for its postgraduate and doctoral students.

Among the 55 total registered participants (17 PG & 38 Ph. D students), 20 participants from different agricultural science departments which includes Agricultural Microbiology, Agricultural Entomology, Genetics and Plant Breeding, Plant Pathology, Plant Physiology, Sericulture, Nematology and Vegetable Science were selected for this program.

The two-day training program began with the welcome address by Dr. E Kokila Devi, Professor and Head, Dept. of Biotechnology followed by an inaugural address by Dr. N Senthil, Dean (SPGS); Director (CPMB).

He explained the importance of bioinformatics skills in performing good research towards high impact publications.

The first session was handled by N Bharathi, Assistant Professor (Bioinformatics) who expounded on biological databases and its applications.

The second session on the first day was presented by Dr. M Jayakanthan, Assistant Professor (Bioinformatics) on protein modelling and validation aspects.

Explanation on protein binding site prediction, ADMET properties and ligand structure retrieval was done by Dr. R Caroline Nirmala, Teaching Assistant (Bioinformatics).

The afternoon session was handled by Dr. N Saranya, Assistant Professor (Bioinformatics) about protein-ligand docking and interaction studies.



Followed by this was the valedictory session, where Dr. E Kokila Devi, Professor and Head, Dept. of Biotechnology welcomed the gathering.

Dr. N Senthil, Dean (SPGS) & Director (CPMB) presided over the meeting and N Bharathi, Assistant Professor (Bioinformatics) presented the training report, elaborating the two-day event. The valedictory session was graced by the Controller of Examinations Dr. V Balasubramani who shared his valuable insights.

Participants also gave their feedback after which Dr. M Jayakanthan, Assistant Professor (Bioinformatics) concluded the event with a vote of thanks.
