Rare species of flying snake in car that came to Coimbatore for repairs handed over to Forest Department

A rare species of snake, the flying snake, has been rescued from a car that was brought to the car service centre at Kavundampalayam in Coimbatore for repairs and safely handed over to the Forest Department.



Coimbatore: In a shocking incident, a rare species of flying snake was recovered from a car that had come for repairs near Kavundampalayam in Coimbatore district.

At a private car service centre in Kavundampalayam area, a car was brought for repairs. When the car service staff went to repair the car, they were shocked to find a small snake in it. Following this, they informed Ratheesh, a member of the Snake Protection Organisation in the area.

Ratheesh reached the spot immediately and rescued the snake from the car. The captured snake is reported to be a venomous snake known as a flying snake. These snakes are seen in green colour with black, yellow and red cross-lines. However, it is said that its poison does not affect humans and that the snake usually only feeds on birds and small insect species.

These snakes are found mostly in the Western Ghats. With the natural ability to jump down from a high branch, this type of snake is known as the flying snake because they have the ability to jump from one tree to another. T

The owner of the car was returning from a picnic near the Anaikatti forest and according to the snake protection agency, the snake may have slipped and dropped onto the car from a tree.

The captured flying snake was safely handed over to the District Forest Department.
